Description

American Apparel is a clothing retailer that emphasizes the fact that all their clothes have been produced in the USA by workers that receive a sustainable wage. Most of their clothing is made from Jersey material. They sell clothing mostly for men and women, but also sell a few items for children (and even pets).

American Apparel Advertisements

The scandalous nature of some of their advertisements has let to controversy in the past. During the 2006-07 UCSC school year, American Apparel purchased full-page ad space in the UCSC campus newspaper, City on a Hill Press, which featured a partially nude woman in full color splashed on the back cover. Though CHP generally does not garner much attention from the student body, the ad elicited several "letters to the editor" (see here and here). Ironically, previous issues of the paper had feature stories addressing the objectification of women in the media.
