Calling Oakland Education Voters! 

Education is a key issue in local elections this year - three school board races, the mayoral race, and Measure N. At GO we believe it is everyone's responsibility to ensure that every child graduates high school ready for college and career. What can mayors and city hall do to improve public schools? How would Measure N contribute to Oakland high schools? What inspired the GO network to endorse four school board candidates this year?

Great Oakland Public Schools is hosting a free event for community members to:

  • Hear from mayoral candidates about how they would help improve Oakland public schools.
  • Understand the importance of Measure N: College and Career Access for All.
  • Learn about the four school board candidates endorsed by GO Public Schools.

Program Details

MAYORAL CANDIDATE FORUM

Mayoral candidates frequently mention education in speeches about what they would accomplish as mayor. While the mayor of Oakland has no direct authority over the school district, the office can contribute to public education in our city. What specific actions would the candidates take to improve education experiences and outcomes for our children?  

Candidates will be asked questions by community members about key education issues that city hall can influence, which may include preschool, summer recreation and academics, public library partnerships, partnerships for student career pathways-based learning (linked learning), and school safety.
