Directions

From Highway 9

Take Highway 9 north from its intersection with Highway 1 in Santa Cruz. In approximately 3 miles, just after the Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park southern boundary sign, there will be a parking lot on the right side of Highway 9 with a blue emergency call box. This is the closest parking to Big Rock Hole. Frome the parking lot, hike down the Rincon Fire Road for approximately half a mile, which will bring you to the San Lorenzo River. At this location you will be looking out at a small "island" formed by a break in the river, and Big Rock Hole is across the river and on the other side of that "island".

From Park Headquarters

Take the River Trail to the Big Rock Hole Trail and follow the rest of the instructions above. Big Rock Hole is about a 5 mile roundtrip hike when starting from the park headquarters.

From the Campground

Take the Powder Mill Fire Road to the Buckeye Trail, which will eventually follow the San Lorenzo River to the general area of the swimming hole.
