Allen Road starts at Greenfield Road in Melvindale and heads south-southwest until merging with Pelham Road, where it turns due south all the way to Gibraltar Road in Brownstown Township.

Note that the road through Woodhaven is frequently congested, most especially at the Allen Road Railroad Crossing and at the intersection with West Road.
