The South American Collection is just north of Putah Creek Lodge is divided by the creek into two sections: plants of Chile on the south bank and plants of Argentina on the north. The north-facing Chilean part continues to be planted with species from the temperate and the mediterranean climate areas of that country, California’s “twin” in the southern hemisphere. The lily-of the-valley trees with their carved-ivory bells are thriving. With its southern-exposure, the Argentine collection glows with color from an Erythrina crista-gallii, the national flower of Argentina, as well as lantanas, salvias, zephyr lilies, cannas and more.
