A census designated place can be a town or city or a populated area. Listed here are the populated areas of Santa Cruz County that are not towns or cities. The Census Bureau considers the areas of Aptos Hill and Larkin Valley as one census designated area (Aptos Hills-Larkin Valley). Opal Cliffs, is no longer considered a census designated place by the Census Bureau. It was merged into the city of Santa Cruz.
If a company builds a map based on information from the Census Bureau, the following locations might appear as a town.
Amesti | Bonny Doon | Corralitos | Day Valley |
Interlaken | Live Oak | Lompico | Pajaro Dunes |
Paradise Park | Pleasure Point | Rio del Mar | Seacliff |
Twin Lakes | Zayante |
The following CDP settlements have a post office and are considered towns as far as maps are concerned.
Aptos | Aromas | Ben Lomond | Boulder Creek | Brookdale | Davenport
Felton | Freedom | La Selva Beach* | Mount Hermon | Pasatiempo | Soquel
*La Selva Beach has a sub-post office, but mail is addressed as Watsonville. |
People living in a CDP (Census Designated Place) often use the nearest town for a mailing address.
Amesti, Corralitos, Pajaro Dunes, Interlaken, La Selva Beach and Day Valley get their mail addressed as Watsonville, California.
Aptos Hills, Larkin Valley, Rio del Mar, and Seacliff get their mail addressed as Aptos, California.
Bonny Doon, Lompico, and Zayante get their mail addressed as Felton, California.
Live Oak, Paradise Park, Pleasure Point, and Twin Lakes get their mail addressed as Santa Cruz, California. (This is also true for the former CDP of Opal Cliffs, which is now part of Santa Cruz.)
People in these CDP locations get over-lapping services. Parts of Live Oak for example have a Santa Cruz address, are in the Soquel High School district, the Santa Cruz water district, the Live Oak Fire district, and depend on county sheriff for incident reporting.
