Research: be the subject

The USDA Western Human Research Center has ongoing studies about how food affects humans. I bet you're a human who eats food! Look for their flyers on campus bulletin boards, pull off a tear-tag and call to enroll. http://www.ars.usda.gov/main/site_main.htm?modecode=53-06-25-00

Some past projects:

  • Evaluating Grain Products Study— Another way to earn money (and score free tasty food) is by participating in studies like this one, where food is given out free, and participants are paid for their time!
  • Dietary Fiber Study— Free food for 3 weeks and participants are paid handsomely for their time!

The Psychology department also makes use of undergraduate participants. Sometimes you can find their classified ads in the Aggie. You can probably stop by the department to check.

Local Government

Campus

If you have good secretarial skills, the Temporary Pool is a place to start.

If you've got Laboratory skills? Ask your professors for 99-level and 199-level classes: these are undergraduate research credits. Otherwise, volunteer in labs for work experience or get hired as part-time lab assistants. Prepare for washing glassware, labeling samples, and getting a feel for what tasks support creative research work.

Work-finding programs

  • The Heights Program (http://heightsprogramdavis.strikingly.com) is a service started by a student that finds you the internship or work experience of your choice. It costs a small fee if you do find the kind of internship you want, but is completely free otherwise.
