Telegraph Avenue is a major north-south street from downtown Oakland into Berkeley. It is named for the telegraph lines constructed by the Alta Telegraph Company that previously followed the same route from downtown to the current intersection of Telegraph Avenue and Claremont Avenue., which itself was formerly the northern end of Telegraph Avenue.

Telegraph Avenue begins in Oakland at an odd gore point around the Cathedral Building where Telegraph meets Broadway, and proceeds north through Uptown, Temescal, and Bushrod before going into Berkeley where it ends at the south edge of the UC Berkeley campus.
