Businesses are a huge part of the social fabric of Oakland. They provide employment and goods/services, but they also host meetups, contribute to nonprofits and charities, display art from local artists, and more.

Community Currency & Barter Exchange

  • Bay Bucks: A platform for local businesses to collaborate by bartering what they have in excess (e.g., unsold inventory, unbilled hours, idle capacity, etc) for what they need. Each member of Bay Bucks can create the Bay Bucks they need, backed by their own goods and services. In this way, we turn an economy based on scarcity and competition to one based on abundance and cooperation.
